Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati Assam

It is annual hindu mela / festival held at kamkhya temple located in nilanchal hill, Guwahati Assam.

It is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of goddess kamakhya. It is belived that the presiding goddess of the temple Devi Kamakhya, the mother shakti goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time.

It is annual four day celebration, during this period the doors of the temple are closed for the devotees and regular rituals are suspended for four days . The temple reopens for shuddhi or ritualistic bath of the devi (Goddess) also known as Mahakumbha of east.
